So you think you want a husky? Please read about the husky before you decide you want to take one home.  The Siberian Husky is not the dog for everyone.  They require special handling.  The husky is sharp witted, like the fox, and loves to play and run.  Make sure you have sturdy fencing.  Huskies have been known to scale a 5 foot fence in a single leap.  I had one that would crawl up a chain link fence like it was a ladder.  Even if it was 10 foot tall she could get over it.  Huskies should NEVER BE LET OFF OF THEIR LEASHES.  If they do happen to get loose don't think they will come home when they get hungry.  They won't.  They will hunt in the wild to survive if they have to. If you have a house full of pet felines chances are your cats will high tail it for safer ground.  Huskies love chasing cats.  Well, they are notorious hunters and will track and hunt down any small animal, unless they are introduced to them while they are pups and raised with them.  They are very strikingly beautiful and have wolf like tendencies.  Your husky will not bark much but he/she will sure howl at the moon.  They are very vocal and great talkers.  If you don't like hair all over the place then don't buy a husky.  They shed a lot because they have dense thick fur to keep them warm in the snow. It ends up everywhere.  On your clothes, car seats (they love to go for rides,) on your furniture, all over your yard, up your nose. Your husky will undoubtedly be the smartest dog that you have ever encountered.  Once you have been accepted by a husky you will love this breed as the rest of us husky owners do. Okay, you ask, so why do we put up with all of this?  All I can say is you have to own one before you can truly understand.... and, do not think you own them.  They pretty much own you. Huskies are not recommended for first time dog buyers.  Huskies are a handful and a challenge, but then aren't most five year olds?
